Curling and Raclette
Last week we had some group activities. First, we went for curling in the local arena (maybe inspired by the winter Olympics). No-one of us had ever tried it before so we were all quite curious. After a few instructions we directly started on the ice. The first challenge was to learn how much strength is needed to get the stones across the ice (a lane is 40 meter long). It looks so much easier on TV! After a few test runs we formed two teams, red and yellow, and we had our own little tournament. Even though the arena is kept at 5°C one does not feel that cold as brushing the ice or pushing the stones will keep you warm. The game was very tight. The first round, team yellow (Marta, Julius, Fouzia and Kerstin) scored one point. But in the second round, team red (Dario, Konrad, Chloe and Lifeng) took their revenge and also scored one point – 1:1. The third round was the game decider and the yellow team managed to place the very last stone closer to the center of the house and thus won the overall game 2:1. Yeah!
After all this activity we were all quite hungry and looking forward to a nice raclette evening. Everyone helped with preparations, cutting a lot of cheese, boiling potatoes, cutting veggies and mushrooms before the big feast started. Most of us knew already raclette but for some it was a new experience, and they discovered a new way of having delicious food. The food was accompanied by nice chats and for those who liked, wine. Overall, we had a very nice and exciting afternoon and evening and some of us cannot wait for the next curling season!
