Marcel Zimmeck, molecular biology student from Hamburg, Germany, joins our lab for the next 4 months thanks to the Erasmus program. He has already experience in cell culture, cloning and western blots. In his project in our lab, he will deal with the production of pseudotyped particles and testing their interactions with glycoaminoglycans by using fluorescence microscopy. We are looking forward to sharing the lab bench with him for this semester and hope he will learn a lot and enjoy his stay in Umeå.
For sure he joined at the perfect time because he got directly into contact with a popular end-of-the-summer Swedish tradition – the crayfish party. At this festivity big platters full of red-cooked crayfishes are served, accompanied with Swedish songs (and occasional snaps), Västerbotten pie and optional other side dishes. The center piece of each crayfish party are for sure the crustacea and it is a must to have matching decoration – from the tablecloth, to napkins and party hats.
